I have absolutely no knowledge about boat building, but I wish to become a hobby boat builder.
Can any recommend some books that will be helpful for understanding the concepts behind boat building.

You should try a technical college that has classes for Hobbists.
Personally did a five year apprenticeship and kept formal studying for another 15 years, still have a lot to learn.
Books are fine but hands on is much better.

I’m used to read a french magazine called “Le Chasse-Marée” about wooden ships building and restauration.
There are lots of anecdotes, a few of technical pages and classified ads to buy/sale a boat or buy the magazine’s collection.
If you can read french try this link: “http://www.chasse-maree.com/content/9-feuilletez-une-revue” to flip through the last issues.
If you don’t read french, you can still profit by the pictures 😉 .
I discovered DelftShip thanks to them. B)

What type of boat construction are you interested in? This would help to focus any advice.
