ParticipantI currently have version 4.27, and would like to purchase the most suitable extension for generating data for stability curves.
My designs are predominantly plywood sailing small-craft, and a few low-powered semi-displacement boats of around 6 to 8m LOA. These are mainly unballasted or lightly ballasted boats. For the sailing craft, visualisation of the inclined hull would help a lot.
I am unsure about which extension to purchase, and would very much appreciate advice.

KeymasterRoss,
Ideally I would suggest the load cases extension, but I guess that would be overkill and also too expensive in your case.
The crosscurves extension could be just what you’re looking for, although it doesn’t give you the stability curve straight away. Instead it gives you the righting lever as though the VCG coincides with the base plane (Z=0.0).
So to compensate you will have to subtract VCG*sin(heeling angle) for each angle in a spreadsheet.
See also the attached document for a sample. The crosscurves are calculated with the boat free to trim, which is absolutely crucial for small craft.

ParticipantMarven,
Thanks very much for the prompt reply. I’ll organise a purchase via the website.
Thanks also for the sample pdf, but for some reason it would not display when downloaded – just a blank screen. However, I have seen the picture on the website which gives me some idea.

ParticipantMarven,
I have tried to send an email via your contact page, but even though I put the correct answer into the Spam Checker, the screen blanks when I send, and comes up with “Invalid Token”(I’m running Windows 7 on a 64-bit machine). I don’t think anything has gone through to you, so could you send me a PM to r.lillistone@gmail.com please? I’m just after cost and payment method for the Cross Curves extension, and maybe the Inclinded Hydrostatics extension, as that would be very helpful for visualisation.
Thanks in advance,
Ross Lillistone
