ParticipantHi,
what is the maximum size of a background image before the message appears on loading to reduce it to a managable size? If I ignore the message the background image is cut and only part can be seen. When confirming to reduce the size it is shrinked so much that the details are not recognizable, to much blurred.
Can that be fixed and larger sizes be allowed in next updates?
Best regards, Axel

KeymasterHi Axel,
The warning you are referring to is shown when the image is larger than 2.5 times the screen width (or height). The message is nothing more than a reminder that the image is large. If you press “Yes” then it is downscaled, otherwise the original image size is kept.

KeymasterHi Axel,
I can use background images on our system without any problems that are 8000 x 8000 pixels in size. What size is your background image?
Could it be that the size of your image exceeds the memory size of your graphics card (or the maximum format supported by your graphics card)? Please bear in mind that the size in memory in bytes is:image width x image height x 4
Usually this is considerably larger than the file on disk.

ParticipantHi Marven,
the background image I use has 13000 x 2100. I don’t know what size my graphic card can handle maximum. I have no issue opening it in other software for editing for example.
Best regards, Axel

KeymasterHi Axel,
13.000 pixels is rather large indeed, and I think your OpenGL card cannot handle it. I don’t think it’s a DELFTship issue, unless the image is also not shown correctly in the reference image editing window?
Perhaps you can try the following and let me know if it solves your issue:
1. Open the background image but do NOT let DELFTship resize it.
2. Select the “Edit” tab in the reference editing window and press the “Resize” button.
3. Reduce the width to 11.000 pixels and check if the image behaves correctly. If it doesn’t try to make it even smaller until it does. 8.096 might be a particular interesting value to look at.

ParticipantHi Marven,
thanks for your advise. I tried what you wrote, but even with 8096 it is cropped and part is missing.
I checked what Delftship does when it asks for reducing the size and it goes down to 4800. And this is so small that it is very much unsharpen and important lines are not visible anylonger. And even 8096 (if that worked) is already quite unsharpen. Of course this is individual and depends on the plan I use. It is the first time because the plan is from a larger ship. Would be however great if that could be solved. Anything I could look in my graphic settings? I don’t know where to search there.

KeymasterHi Axel,
Would you be willing to share the original image so we can check on our systems if it works ok?
