ParticipantHello!
I’m exporting a model as a DXF file in order to produce proper drawings in a 2d CAD program (DraftSight).
The problem is that the measurements don’t match. The hull is 8.092 m LOA. When I measure the hull based on the water lines it is only 8.767 metre. Whn I measure the length based on the buttocks, i.e. profile view for the same export I get only 7.9 metres. So not only is there a difference between the Delft Ship model and the export, but there is also a difference between two files (waterlines and buttocks) from the same export. I’vre tried different export settings with no improvement. I’ve also tried exporting several different models and they are all off.
What could the issue be here? Did I overlook something?

ParticipantI am not sure what you mean – what measurements don’t match what other measurements?
What does “measure length based on buttocks” mean?
Did you mistype a number in your description above?

When you export a model to DXF, it is exported as three separate files. one contains the waterlines, one the buttocks and one the stations. I measured LOA between perpendiculars and got a different value when I measured from the buttocks (side view) than when I measured the waterlines (top view). Not only do they differ from each other (they absolutely shouldn’t) but they also don’t match the actual LOA or the actual length between perpendiculars as measured in DelftShip. I’d like to know the reason for the discrepancy.
No. No mistypes.

ParticipantOK, I see what you mean. When I export a DXF file from DelftSHIP it is only one file. When I open the DXF file in AutoCAD everything is in the one file – no problem.
I don’t know what could be causing it. Are you using an older version of DelftSHIP?
I would hope in your drafting software you could combine and scale the separate DXF files but you shouldn’t have to.
Anyone else have any ideas?

ParticipantWhen I import a DXF file into Turbo Cad it displays, by default, the units in inches, rather than feet or in mm rather than meters.
Regarding export. There is a check box which provides a choice of saving as one complete file or seperate files. The buttocks will never be the length as LOA unless you are drawing a boat with a bow transom. praam etc.
Hope this helps
