ParticipantHi all!
I encountered some difficulties with the align function. In attachment 1 you see the body plan view of the stern of a galleon. When I apply the “align” function (restricted to the x direction) to points A1 to A3, B1 to B4 and C1 to C4, I get results as shown the attachment 2 (profile view) and attachment 3 (perspective view). In the profile view, the points are not arranged in a straight line as I expected. For points A and B, the deviations are small, for points C they are larger and clearly noticeable in the profile view. In the perspective view, the deviations are obvious for all points.
I did exactly what is decribed in the manual’s example for the alignment function. Here is the description:
“If multiple points are selected, these can be aligned on a single straight line. This is done by projecting all the selected points on the line that goes through the first and last selected point. They are projected on the line rather than uniformly distributed to keep the displacement of the points minimal. Additionally you can choose to only modify certain coordinates of the points. For example: when you have selected multiple control points forming the outer edge of a transom you should only adjust the X-coordinate in order to put all the points in the same plane seen from the profile view. The shape of the transom, as seen from the back, will remain unaltered.”
Do I not correctly understand this function, or is this a bug in the algorithm? In other cases the results are as expected. In order to be able to reproduce the results, I have added the stern model as an fbm file. I use the free version 8.06 (292).
Who knows? Thanks for your help in advance.

Obviously there was a bug in the algorithm. Today I have installed the new update (now version 8.08.293), and everything works fine now.

That’s good to hear.
