ParticipantI recently installed the free version of Delftship 4.38.130. I’m beginning to like what I’m learning so far. I’ve run into a problem with plate development.
1- I make a new 15 foot hull… 6 longitudinal, 4 vertical.
2- one by one, I select each *edge* in entirety, and change it to a crease edge so that the hull is essentially a 6 panel hull form (3 panels per side). So far so good.
3- I adjust shape for desired hydrostatics, particularly aiming at potentially 7 knots with aproximately 50 lbs resistance. Still good so far.
4- I go into the layers dialog and click the box so that this layer is developable. The entire simple hull form is in one single layer(0).
I think I’m all set to show the plate developments and so I view that screen. THe screen comes up properly, but the plate developments do not develop as 3 (speaking in half hull language) separate panel developments. Instead, it appears to develop as one plate for the two upper panels, in green, and perhaps another in white. My goal is to have 3 panel shapes developed for building in plywood.
What am I doing wrong?
I can email the file if it would be helpful. I’ve attached two jpg’s here hoping it helps in visualizing the problem.
Again, the goal is to have 3 separate panels developed for the half hull, for 6 total panels. I have not yet added the transom or any other components and will not attempt them until I can at least get these main panels to develop separately.
Any help or insight is appreciated. 🙂

Participantyou have to make 3 separate layers in layer properties, say bottom plate, bilge plate and side plate, then go to Display and turn on Interior edges and highlight each plate to its layer, its in the manual.

ParticipantThank you. I had tried a few things with creating a layer for each plate, but without succss. I will review the manual again and hopefully it will click this time. 🙂
If you do not see a post from me by monday evening, then I’m still working this through, and anyone can feel free to perhaps word the solution in another way, since I’m not quite clear on *highlight each plate to its layer*. Getting to it now. 🙂

In layer properties type in the names of the layers after each one hit the ENTER key, once entered, go to DISPLAY–>INTERIOR EDGES, your hull will be covered in a spider like web of lines, click on each plate and highlight the spider web, one at a time and press the Layer in the Layer Window ( you can sellect the different layers with the drop down arrow), eg hightlight the Bottom Layer, then bring up the layer in the window called Bottom Plate now that plate with be assigned to that layer, then hightlight the next plate and in the window bring up the next layer etc etc now just to make sure the plates have been assigned correctly go to Layer Properties and switch the layer off (VISABLE), switch each layer off in turn just to check. -

ParticipantAlthough I do not yet have a consistent understanding, or procedure, I’ve discovered the main difficulty or confusion I had been having. On the plate developments, the colors of the plates where representing the *colored* hull sides and *below the waterline* surfaces in a another color that was very close to the background color, giving the the strange plate shapes since the shape followed the above the waterline shapes. Got a good laugh!
Mike, your last post was helpful. Thank you again. 🙂 With a little more practice, I’m on the way to developing a repeatable skill and success…
It would be nice to be able to save the plate developments screen. If it is possible, that may be what I discover tommorrow. For now, I am saving screen snapshots to work out nesting diagrams.
Time to make some prototype paperboard models….
