ParticipantI would have thought that if I export a table of offsets from an existing straight forward hull model and then import those offsets to a new project, I would see something resembling the original. What I actually get is a hull which has nothing below the waterline and no bow or stern.
I tried again, this time adding additional waterlines and buttocks to define the centreline, but still the result is anything but resembling the original. My ultimate aim, of playing with the offsets in this manner, is to generate a copy of my original model from which I can generate and develop more accurate strakes.
Am I having a moment again and missing something or is it that Offset tables will not do what I expect of them?

ParticipantTried to replicate the issue:
But…
BAT2016.txt
DS – latest version – says “invalid numeric input”
Any suggestion?
Thanks, Jurgen. -

ParticipantWell, I don’t get the error message with my offsets file but neither do I get a hull that resembles the original DS generated model that the offsets came from. ???

ParticipantWell, something weird happens.
Your .txt appears to be a hull abort, no bow or stern recognizable but a hull, yes with some strange control points position.
Meanwhile “” in mine nothing happens “” ( Holy Spyke Milligan Protect Us ) same “invalid stuff” message.
Check please your original layers arrangement, maybe stupid and you’ve already checked…nevermind do it anyway.
We’ll keep in touch.

ParticipantIt certainly is weird Jurgen. I have checked layer settings on the file that I am exporting the offsets from. I am not sure what I am looking for but the layers are all correct and tidy. I have also tried adding a control curve to the centreline structure to see if that will define the bow and stern.
I have also tried converting the stations, waterlines and buttocks to markers before exporting to the table of offsets. No deal I’m afraid.

ParticipantAll rigth, it’s time to say: Houston we have a problem.
As a fact I am unable to import offsets, all I get is “invalid numeric input” about .txt files created a couple of secs. before by the same program…
Ideas?

ParticipantI think so and I am all out of ideas on this front. So, we’ll have to hang on and wait for mission control then.

ParticipantTill we wait for mission control, something to cheer up the folks…
I shown her on a clip some times ago, then despite absolute lack of plans I tried to figure out her lines.
Of course it’s a work in progress at the moment I’m focusing on gaussian curvatures – hull’s smoothness –
They could say it’s a small bathtub, but I saw her literally flyng in bad weather – worst the better – despite her tiny appearence.
I’ll be pleased if you develope some interest in this design: I can’t manage a real construction…
A model, yes but it’s not enough.
Bye, Jurgen. -

ParticipantIt seems that Quick Reply isn’t working as I replied to your last entry yesterday.
It’s an interesting boat Jurgen. I have had a quick look at her but we are away to the Morbihan, Southern Brittany, for a couple of weeks sailing and camping with my latest creation. I would like to have a closer look on my return.
Can you tell me a little more about the boat? My initial thoughts from your file are that maybe some weights of materials would provide some more meaningful Hydroststics and give some better idea of how she will behave.

ParticipantNo news about offsets.
Here’s the file with weights in layer properties, conjectural at least – we are not talking about metal sheets…Having some fun with others CAD:
Enjoy holidays.

ParticipantHello Jurgen,
Still nothing from Mission Control regarding offsets!
I was looking at your rendition of Bat again today. I wonder if Carlo Sciarrelli got his inspiration from the Itchen Ferry? There is a remarkable similarity. The gaff rig on these little workboats is enormous too.

ParticipantYou jolly ol’…
Have a look:
http://www.itchenferry.org/Itchen_Ferry_Society/Sorella.html
Congrats, but Sciarrelli added a bit of magic, Bat is marginally faster and nimble even if Sorella’s owner does’nt agree.
About offsets: lost in outer space I think..we’ll manage, life deserves more.
Bye, Jurgen. -
