What is the definition of acronyms “PS” and “SB” referenced in the drop-down list settings for Preferences: Coordinate system: Transverse reference?

      Hi RKG,

A review of the manual indicates these terms are not defined but probably should be.

Based on context, PS seems to mean “Port Side” and SB is the opposite, StarBoard side(?). The default coordinate system makes y-dimensions from the centerline to port positive, while to the starboard side negative. Don’t ask me why those abbreviations were used.

The settings you referred to can be switched if desired.

      Terry

      Greetings Terry,

Thanks for the reply. Having failed to find the info in the help system, or on the internet for that matter when searching for standard abbreviations for the same context, I came to the same conclusion as you, but was puzzled by the apparent lack of congruence in the choice of acronyms. Would be nice if our conjectures could be confirmed by the Delftship crew, and the help system updated with the information.

I don’t think this forum is monitored on a regular basis. I can contact one of the DS people to see if they will respond on this thread.

Terrance is correct. By default values on port side (PS) of the vessel are positive while on starboard side (SB) the values are negative. The setting can be used to switch this.
