ParticipantHello,
I am using the Free versions of DS 6.21.252.
As written in the subject line, I cannot change any colours in DS.
Neither does it work globally via File=>Program Settings=>Preferences,
nor for the colour of the submerged hull in the Project Settings,
nor when editing the hull’s layer properties.
Although I can change any setting in the layers editor window,
however when clicking on icon in the third column for selecting the layer’s colour nothing at all happens.
The same is true when clicking on the buttons with the three dots (ellipsis) of either color project or global preference settings. Is this a known bug in the used DS release, or could this be an issue related to my executing DS in the WINE API wrapper under Linux?
This is not just a cosmetic issue because I urgently would like to change the background colour of the view panes from a rather dark grey which seems to be the default setting to something more white,
as it contrasts the black section lines (i.e. body frames, waterlines, buttocks) too little and thus makes workig with DS unnecessarily tedious.Regards,
Ralph -

KeymasterVery strange indeed. I’ve never heard from anyone experiencing this problem before. That doesn’t seem to help you though. Can you please indicate which operating system you are using?

ParticipantHi Marven,
my OS is the latest Fedora 19
[root@pabell:/home/fiddle]
# uname -a
Linux pabell 3.10.9-200.fc19.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Aug 21 19:27:58 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux[root@pabell:/home/fiddle]
# cat /etc/redhat-release
Fedora release 19 (Schrödinger’s Cat)
Wine was installed from the Fedora RPM repos
[root@pabell:/home/fiddle]
# wine --version
wine-1.7.0[root@pabell:/home/fiddle]
# rpm -q wine{,-core}
wine-1.7.0-1.fc19.x86_64
wine-core-1.7.0-1.fc19.x86_64
wine-core-1.7.0-1.fc19.i686[root@pabell:/home/fiddle]
# rpm -q --qf "%{packager}n" wine
Fedora Project
I usually start DS as an unprivileged user through the following alias
[root@pabell:/home/fiddle]
# su - fiddle -c alias delftship
alias delftship='WINEPREFIX=/home/fiddle/wineprefixes/DelftShip nohup wine wineprefixes/DelftShip/drive_c/Program Files/DELFTship/DelftShip.exe &> /home/fiddle/wineprefixes/DelftShip/drive_c/users/fiddle/Temp/wine.log &'
As you can see, the redirection of stdout and stderr captures a few messages from wine in a log file.
But I fear they are of little use and only meant for Wine hackers (only fixmes)

However, the InternetAttemptConnect Stub entry bothers me.
In the beginning I sometimes had trouble with a hanging DS Wine session after the DS logo with the ship appeared which was inexplicable to me.
I then deactivated the search for updates setting in the global preferences, which seemed to have helped with the startup hangs. -

ParticipantHello again,
I have just downloaded and installed Free DS version 6.22.253 on the Windows XP laptop of my wife.
There I experienced absolutely no difficulties in any of the mentioned color selections that were dysfunctional in my Linux setting with the 6.21.252 release.
After installation I just made a tarball of the installation directory which I will unpack on my Linux laptop to test if I encounter the same problems with this slightly newer release.
Before writing the tar archive on the XP machine I set the preferences to a white background color.
So even if color selection still doesn’t work under Linux I at least have a more eye-friendly view port.I will soon be back to report on the outcome…

ParticipantHaving untarred DS 6.22.253 that I tarred from the XP installation into my Linux /home filesystem and having run this in wine the bug disappeared,
i.e. I can select the color from layers, global preferences and project settings now without any problem.
Must have been a bug with DS 6.21.252 that only cropped up in Wine. -

ParticipantI sadly have to rescind my last all-clear statement, which was a bit premature.
In fact its now even worse than just not being able to select some colour.
Currently my DS is totally dysfunctional as it now keeps getting hung on start and just freezes with the DS ship and version logo.
Just the same as before with the 6.21.252 release.
I don’t know what’s going on because it used to work for the first 3 or 4 sessions.
I haven’t changed my Wine settings nor tried to run any other Windows software under Wine meanwhile.
Is there now some sort of restriction built into the latest Free DS releases?
Something that requires some sort of background auto-re-registering or authenticating against the DS website? -

ParticipantHas this issue been resolved? I just downloaded 6.22.253 on my laptop with Windows 8.1 and opened a design I did on the same program on my desktop, which runs XP, and the background when I’m working on the lines is so dark I can barely see the black lines. How do I get this to show lighter?
