Since upgrading to 8.05 I`m experiencing a lot of program crashes. I cannot relate those crashes to any specific action/ button/ function. All of a sudden delftship stops, displaying this annoying message that it has to be shut down. After that the only option I have is to hit the “close” button and that`s it.

Unfortunatly I`ve already put a lot of work into a new project but would nevertheless like to switch back to 7.17 or even 7.22 which were IMHO running much more reliable- can 8.05 somehow save my work in a way that makes it readable for the older 7.xx versions?

Did other users in here have the same problems with 8.05? It`s so exhausting to re-start every 5min or so and even if you really concentrate on manually saving almost any alteration of your hull you will once forget it and then screw up big time…… I did check my rig (Lenovo), installed the newest nvidia driver for my graphics card (GT730), have sufficient RAM (8GB) and run everything on a i3550 CPU and Win 8.1 64-bit……

Any help/ hint would be highly appreciated,
      regards,
      Wolfgang

      Hi,
Version 8.05 works fine for me and will save in any version back as far as version 3.20.

My advice would be for you to re-load the program and see if that changes things for you.

The only matter that is annoying on mine is that when first opening the program and attempting to load a previous projected a comment comes on screen “The current model has been changed! Do you want to save it first?”

It appears that this version thinks that it already has a project open and running when first starting.

I am going to see if re-loading the program changes mine too.

      Hi Denis,

thanx for your reply! How does your 8.05 save in older formats? I get no choice when saving my files whatsoever?! Or do I have to switch this in another menue before I start the saving process?

Some advice would be great…… I`m going to re-install mine too, maybe it`ll solve the constant crashes?

      Regards,
      Wolfgang

      Wolfgang,
Rather than pressing the save button, press the down arrow (triangle) just to the right and it will give you the options for save, save as, or export.
Use the save as and all the previous versions will be available.

I think that, is true only pro version, because in the free version at the save button isn’t arrow, but at the save as button and the save as can’t to save to old versions, only to other name, in same version as the file.

      Wolfgang,
Did not know that you were talking about free version and had no idea that that restriction was in place.
If you are working on projects rather than just improving your boat design skills, perhaps buying the Pro version at the extremely low price of 150 euros would be a good idea.
It is money well spent and the support is tremendous.

      Hi Denis,

yeah, thought about this too but am not sure wether it`s worth the bucs for me? Like I`ve written in my other post: Nobody seems to be able to explain how the auto-fairing works and there`s nothing to be found about this unique (and perhaps time-saving) feature!? I`ve alway problems in smoothing out my hulls and if this feature could make things easier I`d spend the money right away but first I want to see how it works and what it can do!!
I`ll not shell out 150,- just for being able to save to an older file format- I`d rather use the older version of free DS again…….

      Regards,
      Wolfgang

      Wolfgang,
Someone told me once that experience is what you get when you get what you pay for.
Bad experience is what you get when you get what you did not pay for.
I have no doubt in my mind that spending such a paltry amount as 150 euros on gaining knowledge and experience is worth it.
The program does a lot of useful thing as well as fair hulls.
If you are working on projects that it have some value to you, then think about the program developer and give back a little of what you take.
His support alone is worth more than you think and you get help from the whole community involved as a bonus.
      Denis
