Hi there, I am a new user trying to create a hull in Delftship from a background image of a lines plan. I am trying to correctly scale a background Image (lines Plan) in Delftship but it keeps stretching it. After moving the background image so the LWL matches up I then right click on the Forward perpendicular of the background image at the LWL and type in 12.0 to scale the image so the boat is 12 meters long. However the image is stretched to 12 meters, and not scaled up. Can anyone help.
      Thanks
      Michael

Check the settings in the edit image section, scale x and y should be on and then the image should scale in both directions.

Thanks Bob for responding. I have tried toggling the “Same Scale” Button on and off within the “edit background images” box and it makes no difference. When I right click on the forward perpendicular on the LWL and input an x coordinate into the Scale box it just stretches it and does not scale the background image. I am using the latest version of Delftship if that makes any difference. Which version are you using? Maybe I should download an older version and try that. Thanks again. Michael.

      Hi Michael,

I am using free version 8.08(294).

I have just loaded it and have been offered an update to 8.09(296) which I am downloading. I will have a play with 294 and see if I can replicate your events.

I will revert to you on completion.

      Regards
      Bob

      Hi Again,

      I see what you mean.

Whilst it’s not clear in the help files, IMHO the image should be scaled to the drawing by using the corner points of the image or scaling x and y separately with the centre side points.

When this is done a known co-ordinate in the image is finely adjusted to match the drawing co-ordinate.

I would suggest that you only use the image handles to place it relative to the hull.

IMHO it does not work in the same way earlier versions worked and is more than a little difficult to understand why this route has been adopted.

      Regards
      Bob

Thanks again Bob. I am glad to hear it was not me making a silly error. I have been using the corner points of the image to scale as you suggested, but this is not very precise, but is sufficient. I will find a way of notifying the developers, for future updates. Otherwise I am looking forward to creating some hulls in Delftship.

      Kind regards
      Michael
