Ben
ParticipantHello
A couple of years ago I used delft ship to create a model. As can happen, the computer that I had it saved on died. The only remnants of the model that I have left are a .dxf and a .txt.
I now wish I to work on the model and make some changes, but I’m stuck. When I load the .dxf file. All I get is a wire looking outline of the model. I cannot select individual points (only stations). And what I can do with it is limited. For example I cannot export it as a different file type. All I can do is export the marker points. It’s not rendered.
how do I go about using this dxf as a base for doing a new model in the normal delft ship form?
As a last resort I also have a .txt of the station points. Is there a way I could use these and manually type them in?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can assist.

ParticipantSorry, no good news I think.
By your post I can guess the.dxf it’s a 3D polylines export – btw I strongly suggest a saved .dxf linesplan AND one of 3D mesh as backup – a work of forensic reconstruction could be only alternative.
Focus on obtain an image suitable for background in a new .fbm.
In a CAD ambient and with patience it’s possible to intersect your polylines with planes till a simil-linesplan get life.
Imported stations as .txt as check-control too.
Now it’s up to you: Be positive, what’s done once should be replicated!

ParticipantThankyou for your response.
Is there a way to manually enter the points using co-ordinates. When I attempt to import the .txt file it says error on Line 2 and then stops. However, I can open the txt file and read the information.
My main objective is to make some alterations and have it as a .obj. I have done some conversions of the .xf to .obj however, again it is just a mesh and isn’t suitable for what I need done.

Hi Ben, In the help files is information on the format of a txt file to import co-ordinate points into delftship. The txt file must be exactly as per the instructions or it will not import and this sounds like the problem you are experiencing above.
