I suggest you save often, and under different names, for example before you try a new delicate operation and after you succeeded in doing it. Thus, you can always get back from a previous stage of you design and continue it differently, and then choose the best final solution.
This uses more hard disc space, but it can help if you can’t set your mind. 😉
